Redesign without losing your rankings.
Website redesign services that give you a site that looks like your business today, keeps every ranking it earned, and turns more visitors into calls, forms and sales.
01Overview
Website redesign services that protect what already works
Good website redesign services are judged by what survives the launch as much as by what is new. Your current site has rankings, backlinks, bookmarked pages and form submissions tied to specific URLs. A redesign that ignores them can look beautiful and still cost you half your organic traffic the week it goes live. We treat the old site as an asset to inventory first and a design problem second.
Unified Marketing has been building websites since 2006, for more than 1,100 businesses. We design in a clickable prototype, then hand-code the theme on WordPress or build on Shopify, with no page builders. The work is run by one in-house team, the same people who handle SEO and Google Ads, so the new site is built for the channels that feed it.
Signs you need a redesign, not a refresh
- The platform fights you. Simple edits need a developer, the page builder has piled up years of shortcodes, or core updates break the theme.
- Mobile is an afterthought. The layout was designed for desktop and squeezed onto phones, where most of your visitors now arrive.
- Core Web Vitals are red and the cause is the theme itself, not a few heavy images.
- The business changed. New services, new locations, a new brand or a new buyer, and the site still describes the company you were five years ago.
- You cannot measure it. Calls, forms and bookings are not tracked to a source, so nobody knows which pages earn money.
- Accessibility gaps run through every template, so fixing them page by page would cost more than rebuilding them correctly.
If only one or two of those apply, you may not need a full rebuild. That decision deserves its own section, because it is where most redesign budgets are won or wasted.
02Redesign or improve
Redesign, rebuild or improve: an honest decision table
Agencies that only sell website redesign services will always recommend a new site. We also run website improvement and CRO programs, so we have no reason to push a rebuild you do not need. Here is the framework we use in the first call. Match your situation to a row, and the recommendation is usually obvious.
| Your situation | What we usually recommend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Site is under three years old, fast, and on a sound platform, but converts poorly | Improve: CRO and page-level fixes | The foundation is fine. Headlines, offers, forms and page order are the leak, and testing fixes them faster than a rebuild. |
| Design looks dated, code is clean, rankings are strong | Visual refresh on the existing build | New styles, imagery and layouts on proven templates keep URLs and content intact, which keeps risk low. |
| Page builder bloat, failing Core Web Vitals, plugin conflicts | Rebuild with a hand-coded theme | Speed problems baked into the theme cannot be optimized away. Clean code is the fix. |
| New brand, new services or a merger of several sites | Full redesign with content strategy | The structure itself must change, so the sitemap, copy and URL plan are rebuilt together. |
| Moving platforms, for example WooCommerce to Shopify or a hosted builder to WordPress | Rebuild plus a full migration plan | Every URL pattern changes, so redirects and data mapping become the biggest part of the job. |
| Traffic is falling and nobody knows why | Audit first, then decide | Redesigning on top of an unexplained drop can hide the cause. A technical SEO audit comes first. |

The most expensive mistake we see is a business redesigning because a site feels old, when the real issue is a slow form or a confusing offer. Before anyone opens a design file, read our conversion leak audit and check whether the leak is the design or the path. If you do need new design, our website design process shows you the result in a prototype before a line of code is written.
Rule of thumb: redesign when the platform or the structure is the problem. Improve when the message, the offer or the path is the problem.
03Why Unified
Why businesses choose Unified for website redesign.
Twenty years of website redesign services have taught us that the launch is the risky part, so we plan for it from day one.
Honest recommendation first
We sell improvement programs as well as website redesign services, so we can tell you when a redesign is the wrong call. If targeted fixes will move your numbers faster, we say so in the first meeting and show you the evidence from your own analytics.
Rankings treated as an asset
Every engagement starts with a URL inventory and value ranking. Your best pages keep their content and get a reviewed one-to-one redirect, so the traffic you built over years carries over to the new site instead of resetting. Thin or duplicate pages are merged on purpose, with a redirect to the page that replaces them.
Hand-coded, never builder-based
We hand-code WordPress themes and build on Shopify without page builders. The result is lean code that loads fast on real phones, has fewer plugins to patch, and stays easy for your team to edit. You own the theme code outright, and any competent developer can read it if you ever move on.
One team after launch
The people who rebuild your site also run SEO, Google Ads, tracking and care. Nobody hands the site off and disappears, and the first month after launch is watched daily by the team that built it. If a ranking or a form slips, the fix comes from the same people who know why it was built that way.
04SEO-safe migration
The SEO-safe migration checklist we run on every redesign
Google publishes clear guidance on site moves with URL changes, and it is worth reading before you sign with anyone. It recommends server-side permanent redirects such as 301s, sending each old URL straight to its final destination, avoiding redirect chains, keeping redirects for at least a year, and not dumping many old URLs onto an unrelated page like the home page. It also warns that rankings can fluctuate for a few weeks or more while Google recrawls.
Our migration checklist turns that guidance into tasks with owners, and it is part of all our website redesign services. It runs in this order, because each step depends on the one before it.
- Crawl and export every live URL from the old site, plus URLs from the sitemap, analytics landing pages, Search Console and backlink reports. Pages that only exist in one of those lists are the ones that get lost.
- Rank the URLs by value: organic clicks, conversions, backlinks and ad landing pages. The top of that list gets a human review, not a pattern match.
- Write a one-to-one redirect map. Each old URL points to the closest new equivalent. Retired services go to the nearest relevant page, never to the home page in bulk.
- Carry content forward deliberately. Pages that rank keep their core copy, headings and focus terms unless we have a reason to change them.
- Rebuild the technical layer: titles, meta descriptions, self-referencing canonicals, schema, image alt text and hreflang if you use it.
- Update internal links to the new URLs so the site does not lean on its own redirects.
- Stage and crawl the new site behind a password, test every redirect from the map, and fix chains and 404s before launch.
- Rebuild tracking: GA4, Google Ads conversions, call tracking and form events, tested end to end on staging.
- Launch in a low-traffic window, remove any staging noindex, submit the new XML sitemap and keep the old one available while Google processes the move.
- Use Change of Address only for a domain change. Google says it is not needed for HTTP to HTTPS moves or path changes on the same domain.
- Monitor daily for two weeks, then weekly: coverage, 404s, rankings for the top pages, conversions and Core Web Vitals.
- Keep the redirects. We leave them in place well past the one-year mark Google recommends.
Our technical SEO checklist covers the crawl side in more depth. The short version: a redesign that keeps its URLs, content and links mapped is a ranking opportunity, because a faster, clearer site gives Google better pages to show.
05Timeline
A website redesign timeline, phase by phase
Timelines depend on page count, content readiness and how fast decisions get made. This is the shape of our website redesign services for a service business with roughly 20 to 80 pages. Larger catalogs and multi-location sites add time to content and migration, not to design.
| Phase | Typical length | What happens | What you approve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery and audit | 1 to 2 weeks | Analytics review, URL inventory, competitor and keyword research, conversion goals | Goals, sitemap direction |
| Strategy and sitemap | 1 week | New page structure, URL plan, content outline per page | Sitemap and URL plan |
| Design and prototype | 2 to 4 weeks | Wireframes, visual design, clickable prototype on desktop and mobile | Prototype sign-off |
| Content | Runs in parallel | Copy written or carried forward, photography and video planned | Page copy |
| Build | 3 to 6 weeks | Hand-coded theme, schema, forms, integrations, speed tuning | Staging review |
| QA and migration | 1 to 2 weeks | Redirect testing, accessibility and device checks, tracking tests | Launch go-ahead |
| Launch and watch | 4 weeks of close monitoring | Go-live, sitemap submission, daily checks, fixes | Post-launch report |
The quality bar every redesign must clear
- Core Web Vitals in the good range. Google's web.dev guidance defines good as Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads. Our Core Web Vitals guide explains each one.
- Accessibility built in. We design and code toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The Department of Justice states that the ADA applies to the web content of businesses open to the public and points to WCAG as helpful guidance, per ADA.gov.
- Every conversion tracked. Calls, forms and bookings attributed to their source through UnifiedIQ and call tracking, so the results of website redesign services can be judged on leads, not opinions.
- Easy to edit. Your team can update text, images and new pages without breaking the layout.
06Hiring
How to judge website redesign services before you sign
Most proposals look alike: a sitemap, a few mockups, a launch date. The difference shows up in the details nobody asks about until something breaks. These are the questions we would ask if we were hiring an agency ourselves.
Questions to ask about any website redesign services
- Who builds the redirect map, how is it checked, and will I get a copy?
- Will my top 20 organic pages keep their URLs and core content? If not, why?
- Is the site hand-coded or built in a page builder, and who owns the theme code after launch?
- What Core Web Vitals and accessibility level do you commit to, and how will you prove it?
- How do you rebuild tracking, and how will we know if leads rise or fall after launch?
- What happens in the first 30 days after launch if rankings or conversions dip?
- Can I edit pages myself, and what training is included?
Red flags
- No mention of redirects, Search Console or URL mapping in the proposal.
- A plan to redirect old pages to the home page because the new site has fewer pages.
- Design shown only as static images, with no prototype and no mobile view.
- A template theme stacked with plugins sold as custom design.
- Launch scheduled with no staging review and no tracking tests.
- Nobody owns the site after go-live, or care and updates are an afterthought.
Our work is public. Aces Airboat Tours launched 334 pages and recorded 369 booking-button clicks in its first two months. The Center for Spiritual Living moved 732 events onto a custom AI-assisted events platform across a 753-page site and ranks #1 on Google and Maps in Fort Lauderdale. Joe Sale Photography has 50 SEO landing pages, every one scoring 99 to 100.
After launch, website care keeps the new build patched, backed up and fast. 07How we work
How a website redesign engagement runs.
Audit before design, prototype before code, redirects before launch.
- Step 01
Audit and decide
We review analytics, Search Console, speed, accessibility and conversions, inventory every URL, and give you a clear recommendation: refresh, rebuild or improve. You see the reasoning and the data behind it before committing to scope.
- Step 02
Plan and prototype
We build the new sitemap and URL plan, outline content for each page, and design a clickable prototype for desktop and mobile. You click through the real experience and approve it before development begins. Changes at this stage cost hours, not weeks.
- Step 03
Build and map
We hand-code the theme, carry forward ranking content, add schema and tracking, and write and test the redirect map on a password-protected staging site until every important URL resolves correctly. Content is loaded, schema validated, and every form and call path tested before we ask you to review it.
- Step 04
Launch and watch
We launch in a quiet window, submit sitemaps, and monitor coverage, rankings, conversions and Core Web Vitals daily for two weeks, then report on what changed against the old site's baseline. Anything that slipped through gets fixed in days, not discovered months later in a traffic report.

10Questions
Website redesign questions, answered.
Will a website redesign hurt my SEO?
It can if URLs change without a plan, which is why good website redesign services start with a URL map. Google recommends 301 redirects from each old URL to its closest new page, no redirect chains, and keeping redirects for at least a year. We map, test and monitor every important URL, carry ranking content forward, and watch Search Console daily after launch. Some fluctuation for a few weeks is normal while Google recrawls.
How long does a website redesign take?
For a service business with roughly 20 to 80 pages, most redesigns run from discovery to launch in a few months. Design and build take the most time. The biggest variable is content: sites where copy and photos are ready move much faster than sites waiting on approvals.
Should I redesign or just improve my current site?
Redesign when the platform or the structure is the problem: page builder bloat, failing speed, a brand or service change, or a platform move. Improve when the message, offer or form path is the problem. We give you that recommendation after reviewing your analytics, and we run both kinds of engagement.
Do you redesign sites built on other platforms?
Yes. We regularly rebuild sites from page builders, hosted site builders and older custom themes onto hand-coded WordPress, and move stores onto Shopify. Platform changes need the most careful migration because every URL pattern changes, so the redirect map gets extra review.
Will I be able to edit the new site myself?
Yes. We build custom WordPress themes and Shopify sections so your team can change text, images and pages without breaking the design. We train whoever will manage the site and leave written notes for common tasks. You will not need to call us to change a phone number, swap a photo or add a page.
Can you keep my existing content?
We keep content that ranks or converts, usually with light edits for clarity and structure. Pages that are thin, outdated or duplicated get rewritten or merged, and the old URLs redirect to the page that replaces them. You approve the content plan before anything is cut.
What do your website redesign services include?
Our website redesign services include the audit and recommendation, URL inventory and redirect map, sitemap and content plan, a clickable prototype, a hand-coded WordPress or Shopify build, tracking rebuilt and tested, accessibility and speed checks, launch, and two weeks of daily monitoring with a report against your old baseline.
What happens after launch?
We monitor coverage, 404s, rankings, conversions and Core Web Vitals daily for two weeks, fix anything that slipped through, and report against the old site's baseline. Most clients then move to a care plan for updates, backups and support. You also keep the redirect map and a record of every change we made.
