Plumbing marketing that answers at 2 a.m.

Water does not wait for business hours. We build the listings, ads, site and call handling that win the emergency call, then turn that customer into years of repeat work.

01Overview

What a plumbing marketing agency should be responsible for

A plumbing marketing agency earns its fee in the minutes after a homeowner finds water on the floor. That person grabs a phone, searches, and calls the first company that looks trustworthy and open. Whoever answers and gives a time usually gets the job. Everything we build, from the Maps listing to the ads to the after-hours phone path, is aimed at winning that one moment over and over.

The trouble is that most plumbing shops never hire a plumbing marketing agency at all. They buy marketing in pieces. A lead service here, a template website there, an ads account nobody has opened in a year. Calls come in, but nobody can say which ones came from where, what they cost, or how many went to voicemail at night. We start by connecting the pieces so you can see the whole path from search to invoice.

Not every plumbing call is worth the same

A burst supply line at midnight, a water heater that quit this morning, a bathroom repipe planned for next month and a restaurant grease trap contract are four different businesses. They come from different searches and deserve different budgets. We split them before we spend anything.

Emergency calls are the front door. They are rarely the most profitable job on their own, but a plumber who shows up fast at 2 a.m. earns the water heater replacement, the repipe and the referral to the neighbor. Our job is to win the emergency, then make sure the customer hears from you again. That second half is where most plumbing marketing falls apart.

02After hours

The economics of the emergency call, and why 24/7 is a marketing decision

Running ads at night is easy for any plumbing marketing agency. Answering at night is the hard part, and it decides whether the spend makes money. Every emergency plumbing search is a person with a problem getting worse by the minute. If your line rolls to voicemail, they hang up and call the next listing. You paid for that click or that lead, and a competitor booked the job.

Google makes the point for you. Its Local Services Ads lead rules say a missed call during your business hours can still be charged if the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds. So if you list 24/7 hours and nobody answers, you can be paying for calls you never had a chance to book. Any plumbing marketing agency that raises your budget before fixing your phones is spending your money backwards.

Plumbing marketing agency concept: plumber's van at night with a phone showing an incoming emergency call
Emergency plumbing calls are won by whoever answers first, so we plan the phone coverage before we turn up the ads.

Four ways to cover the phones, and when each fits

OptionGood forWatch out for
On-call tech carries the phoneSmall shops, low night volumeBurnout, missed calls while on a job
Live answering serviceSteady after-hours volumeScripts that take messages instead of booking
AI receptionist with human handoffTriage, booking and instant text-backNeeds clear rules for true emergencies
In-house night dispatcherLarger shops with real night demandCost only makes sense at volume

Whatever you choose, we set the ad schedule to match it. If nobody can dispatch after midnight, ads should shift to next-morning booking language instead of promising a truck in 30 minutes. If you do run true 24/7 service, we say so loudly in ads, on the profile and across the site, because it is one of the few real advantages a plumber can claim.

  • Missed-call text-back within seconds, so the homeowner knows someone is on it.
  • Triage questions that separate a true emergency from a next-day job.
  • Booking into your field software so the morning team is not rebuilding the night from voicemails.
  • A follow-up after every emergency visit with a review ask and a note about water heater or drain maintenance.

Our rule: no budget increase until answered-call rate is close to every call during the hours you advertise. More spend on an unanswered line only buys your competitors more jobs.

03Why Unified

Why plumbing companies choose Unified.

We treat the phone as part of the marketing, because for plumbers it is.

  1. Built around the emergency

We plan from the 2 a.m. call backward: who answers, how fast, what they say, and how the job lands in your schedule. Ads and listings only promise what your team can deliver, so you build a reputation for showing up instead of a pile of angry callbacks.

  2. Booked jobs, measured

Every call and form is tracked to its source and scored in UnifiedIQ. You see cost per booked job by channel and by tier, so you know whether emergencies, water heaters or repipes are carrying the business and where the next dollar should go.

  3. One senior team

Local Services Ads, Google Ads, Maps, a hand-coded site, call handling, follow-up and reviews come from one in-house team led by senior specialists. No handoffs between vendors who blame each other when the phone goes quiet.

  4. Your accounts, your data

Ad accounts, Business Profile, domain, website and tracking numbers stay in your name. Reviews and history are yours. We earn the next month by producing jobs, not by holding your listings hostage.

04Channels

Local Services Ads vs Search vs Maps for plumbers

Plumbing searches are dominated by three Google surfaces. Local Services Ads sit at the top and charge per lead. Search ads sit below and charge per click. The Maps pack is free per click but slow to build. Our Local Services Ads guide and Maps ranking playbook go deep on each. This is the short version our plumbing marketing agency uses to set a budget.

What Google checks before your Local Services Ads run

Plumbing is one of Google's urgent categories. Its screening and verification requirements include business and owner checks, state-level licenses where local law requires them, general liability insurance for select users, and an added background check on the service professionals who enter homes. Start that paperwork in week one. It is the slowest part of launch.

Once live, Google's ranking factors include your bid, your responsiveness, your rating and review count, and the verification checks you have completed. Fast answers and steady reviews move you up. Bigger budgets alone often do not.

Your license number belongs in your marketing

Licensing is not just a Google box, and a plumbing marketing agency that ignores it can put your license at risk. In Florida, section 489.119 requires a contractor's registration or certification number in every advertisement, regardless of medium. Other states have their own rules. We put your license number on the site footer, landing pages and printed pieces where your state requires it, and we check before launch rather than after a complaint.

For Maps, most plumbers are service-area businesses. Google's Business Profile guidelines say to hide your address in that case and to use your real-world business name with no added keywords. Our local SEO and Google Business service and profile playbook cover the rest.

05Site and seasons

A plumbing website and calendar built for urgent searches

The homeowner standing in an inch of water is reading your site on a phone with wet hands. They need a phone number, a sign you are open, proof you are licensed and real reviews, in that order. A hand-coded site from our web design team loads fast and puts a tap-to-call button on every screen. Ad traffic goes to dedicated landing pages for each emergency type, not the homepage.

  • One page per service: burst pipes, water heaters, drain cleaning, sewer lines, leak detection, repiping, commercial work.
  • One page per town with demand, written for that town, not a find-and-replace copy.
  • Open now signals: real hours, emergency availability and average arrival language you can actually deliver.
  • Trust above the fold: license number, insurance, review count, and photos of your trucks and team.

The plumbing calendar we plan around

Plumbing has less seasonality than HVAC, but it is not flat. Freezes break pipes, heavy rain backs up sewers and sump pumps, and older water heaters tend to fail when demand on them rises in cold weather. We build campaigns ahead of each and shift budget when the forecast turns. Planned, slower months are for repipes, tankless upgrades and maintenance memberships.

There is even a federal hook for spring that a good plumbing marketing agency will use. The EPA runs Fix a Leak Week every March and estimates household leaks waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water a year nationwide. That is a ready-made reason to email your customer list, publish leak detection content and offer inspections in a slower month.

What to measure every month

MetricWhy it matters
Answered call rate, day and nightShows whether ad spend can turn into jobs
Booked jobs by channel and tierSeparates emergencies from planned projects
Cost per booked jobThe only cost number that pays your techs
Water heater and repipe estimates setTracks the high-value work behind the emergency
Reviews per monthFeeds Maps and Local Services Ads ranking
Repeat and membership customersThe cheapest revenue you will ever earn

We track all of it with call tracking on every channel and score each call in UnifiedIQ. UnifiedIQ can send booked jobs back to Google Ads as offline conversions, so bidding learns which searches turn into paying customers instead of chasing the cheapest calls.

06Hiring

Hiring a plumbing marketing agency: 90 days, questions and red flags

Any plumbing marketing agency can show you a dashboard. Ask for a dated plan instead. Here is the 90-day sequence we run, built so tracking is live before the big spend and the phones are covered before the ads go loud.

  1. Days 1 to 14: phone coverage plan, call and conversion tracking, Business Profile cleanup, Local Services Ads verification started, license display checked.
  2. Days 15 to 45: Local Services Ads live, Google Ads rebuilt with emergency and project campaigns, emergency landing pages, review requests after every job.
  3. Days 46 to 75: service and town pages, water heater and repipe follow-up sequences, a seasonal campaign for the next freeze or rain season.
  4. Days 76 to 90: cost per booked job by channel, budget moved to winners, after-hours performance reviewed, plan for the next quarter.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • How will you make sure calls get answered after hours before you raise spend?
  • Will you report booked jobs and cost per booked job by tier?
  • Do I own the ad accounts, profile, website and tracking numbers?
  • Are any of my leads shared with or sold to other plumbers?
  • How do you handle license display and Local Services Ads verification?
  • Who is the senior person running my account?

Red flags

  • Shared leads sold as exclusive. The FTC took action against a large lead seller over claims about lead quality.
  • Promises of the top spot in Maps by a date.
  • Review gating. Google's review policy bans asking only happy customers. Our reputation work asks everyone.
  • Ads promising 30-minute arrival when nobody is on call.

We are a plumbing marketing agency without a plumbing case study yet, so we borrow proof honestly: the local search system that put the Center for Spiritual Living #1 on Google and Maps in Fort Lauderdale, and the 24/7 AI agent chat we built into the hero of HonestyInsure.com. 07How we work

How a plumbing engagement runs.

Phones first, tracking second, then the spend.

  1. Step 01

    Mystery-call audit

We call your business day and night as a homeowner would, then review your ads, Maps listing, site and license display. You get a ranked list of where booked jobs leak out, starting with the cheapest fixes that recover the most calls.

  2. Step 02

    Fix coverage and tracking

We agree a phone coverage plan, set up call tracking on every channel, connect conversion tracking and match the ad schedule to the hours you can actually dispatch. From here every job has a source.

  3. Step 03

    Launch demand

Local Services Ads verification and launch, Google Ads rebuilt by job tier with heavy negative keywords, emergency landing pages and a cleaned-up Business Profile. Review requests start after every completed job.

  4. Step 04

    Build and tune

Service and town pages, follow-up sequences for big-ticket estimates and seasonal campaigns roll out while we tune budgets weekly. Monthly, you get a short report and a call with the strategist on your account.

10Questions

Plumbing marketing questions, answered.

What does a plumbing marketing agency do?

It brings in booked plumbing jobs and proves where they came from. That usually means Local Services Ads, Google Ads, Google Maps, a fast website, call tracking, review requests and follow-up for large estimates. For plumbers, it should also include a plan for answering calls after hours, because unanswered emergency calls waste the spend that produced them.

Should a plumber run ads 24/7?

Only if someone can answer and dispatch. If you offer true round-the-clock service, advertise it hard, because it is a real advantage. If you do not, change night ads to next-morning booking language. Google can charge Local Services Ads leads for some missed calls during the hours you list, so match your hours to reality.

Are Local Services Ads good for plumbers?

For emergency and same-day work, they are usually one of the strongest channels. You pay per valid lead and appear above regular ads. Plumbing is an urgent category, so expect extra background checks on technicians during verification. Ranking leans on responsiveness and reviews, so fast answers matter as much as budget.

How fast will we see results?

Local Services Ads and Google Ads can produce calls within weeks once verification clears and tracking is live. Maps and organic SEO take months to build, because reviews, photos and pages accumulate over time. We run paid and organic together so calls start early while the free channels grow underneath.

Do we need to show our license number in ads?

It depends on your state. In Florida, the contractor statute requires the registration or certification number in every advertisement. Other states have their own rules. We check the requirement for your state and put the number where it needs to be before anything launches.

Will we own everything you build?

Yes. Your ad accounts, Local Services Ads profile, Business Profile, domain, website and tracking numbers stay in your name. We work inside them with your permission, and everything stays with you if you ever leave. We also keep a written list of every account, login and access level, so you always know who can touch what and nothing depends on one person at our agency.

Do you have plumbing case studies?

Not yet, and we will not make one up. Our published proof comes from other local businesses, such as the local search work that took the Center for Spiritual Living to #1 on Google and Maps in Fort Lauderdale. We are glad to walk you through exactly how that system would apply to your service area.
